Ghillie rig

We designed the Ghillie rig for waters with wary/experienced carp. It’s based on a spinner rig but with a coated steel leader that sits snugly on the bottom. The goal was to camouflage the hooklink/boom so that wary fish wouldn’t be spooked by it in clear water. I started by attaching dried moss to the line, and it worked very well, but wasn’t durable enough. Artificial moss proved just as effective, is long-lasting, and becomes nearly invisible among algae and aquatic plants on the bottom. Even on clean bottoms, the results were surprisingly good, and I now use this rig and similar designs regularly; the ghillie rig was born!
